PUBLIC SECT0R: New social care watchdog to take on Hill & Knowlton

Newly created social care watchdog the National Care Standards Commission has taken on external PR support.

Hill & Knowlton has been hired to assist the in-house communications team with public affairs, internal communication and media relations.

This will include regional campaigns to promote reports on around 40,000 care facilities across England, including homes for the elderly, children's homes and voluntary hospitals.

The agency will also promote the Commission's online register of social care facilities, which is being developed.

From January next year nursing agencies and domiciliary care will be also regulated by the Commission. Both groups will be targeted in an awareness building campaign.

The Commission came into being in April this year under the Care Standards Act 2000.

The H&K team, led by public and corporate affairs MD Andrew Pharoah, reports to Sharon Atkinson, NCSC head of communications.
