PRWeek UK Power Book 2019: New Tesco comms chief leads retail top 10

Tesco group communications director Christine Heffernan tops the list of most influential people in retail comms from the PRWeek UK Power Book - in her debut year in the book.

The retail comms list is published today – check out the full top ten here – and follows the launch of the UK Power Book last week.

Formerly Tesco’s corporate affairs director in Ireland, Heffernan (pictured) replaced Jane Lawrie in her role at the UK’s biggest retailer on 1 March.

She has comms experience across a number of sectors, including energy, telecoms and financial services. Interestingly, in light of Brexit, she has previously worked for the European Parliament and as a policy advisor to the Treasury in London.

This is the first year in which PRWeek has compiled a standalone list for the retail sector, which is dominated by major supermarket groups.

Iceland’s corporate affairs director Keith Hann is fourth in the list, his high position reflecting his employer’s growing influence as a leading player in environmental debates following its pledge to remove plastic and later Palm Oil from own-brand products (not without some difficulties).

The UK Power Book is an extensive list of the most influential and respected comms professionals in the UK today.

The guide, complete with Q&As from each of the nearly 400 entrants, is available online:
