Famous Camden women immortalised in football kit for IWD campaign

A football kit featuring artwork depicting some of Camden's most famous women has been created in a campaign for Camden Town Brewery to tie into International Women's Day (IWD).

The kit is for local all-female female side Camden Town Football Club and features former residents of the north London town including writers Sylvia Plath and Buchi Emecheta, modernist sculptor Dame Barbara Hepworth, and suffragist Dame Millicent Garrett Fawcett.

Also to mark IWD, which takes places on Friday (8 March), all beer sales at the brewery’s bar this week will be donated to women’s rights charity, The Fawcett Society.

The kit was created by Camden Town Brewery’s design collaborator of the year, Bodil Jane.

The campaign is from W, whose executive creative director Mark Perkins said: "Camden Town brewery asked us how we could use its partnership with artist Bodil Jane to help transform an everyday space or object. Given football kits are formulaic, we thought they are an interesting canvas to work with, and we realised there was an opportunity to do something completely original with Camden Town Ladies FC. The end result is a kit that genuinely is a work of art, one that reinvents the meaning and purpose and meaning of a kit.

"We hope it will help inspire other women and raise lots of funds for the Fawcett Society."
