DIARY: Jolly to prove sword is mightiest in IPR contest

For Stephen Jolly, communications director at office services firm Regus, life is starting to sound a little bit too much like the plot of a Japanese Samurai film epic.

Not content with being cast in the role of defeated warrior after narrowly missing out on the presidency of the Institute of Public Relations past year, he is about to take his black-belt exam in the Japanese sword-fighting martial art, Iaijitsu.

Jolly this week revealed he has spent the last four years attempting to master this particularly dangerous martial art, and his black-belt exam takes place on 28 August.

Has the timing of this revelation anything to do with this year's forthcoming IPR presidential contest, which he is rumoured to be keen to enter?

Refusing to comment on the election, he rather ominously says: 'There is a Samurai saying that the duty of the Samurai is not to seek victory or defeat but merely fight insanely to the death.'
