INTERNATIONAL: Industry ranking gives B-M Spain number one slot

Madrid:Burson-Marsteller has finished top of the 2001 Spanish PR rankings, as the combined fee income of the top 20 agencies grew 15.7 per cent.

The figures, compiled by Spanish PR industry body AEDEC, saw B-M's Spanish arm record fee income of £5.2 m, up 14.2 per cent.

Citigate-owned firm Grupo Sanchis Comunicacion came second in the table with fee income of £4.3m, closely followed by Weber Shandwick Iberia on £4m.

Significant rises were also recorded by Comunicacion Empresarial Porter Novell, up 35.5 per cent to £2.8m, and Text 100 whose income leapt 56.2 per cent to more than £570,000 for the year.

B-M Madrid director Ilona Alparsoro attributed the increased income to a greater belief in PR :'Companies are realising that PR is an essential part of external relations, especially in times of crisis.'
