Sands replaces five-year incumbent Abigail Edmond as director of the UK brand marketing practice - G/H's largest UK division by fee income - following Edmond's decision to relocate to Norfolk for family reasons.
G/H's consumer clients include Lego, Coors Brewers and Florida Department of Citrus.
Sands oversees 14 staff and is set to join the agency's global marketing and brand strategy practice, headed by G/H worldwide director, marketing and brand strategy Ellen Ryan Mardiks.
She leaves AIM-listed UBC Media Group for the post, quitting her role as executive director and managing director of production subsidiary Unique.
Prior to UBC, Sands worked for 14 years at Biss Lancaster, including 12 years as a director responsible for consumer brands and healthcare.
