RICHMOND, VA: Dominion Energy has hired Greg Hitt, former VP of global corporate communications at Walmart, as its VP of communications.

Hitt, who started at Dominion on February 18, replaced Chet Wade, who retired last October.

Hitt will be responsible for media relations, employee communications, digital communications, executive comms, and video and multimedia production.

He is reporting to William Murray, SVP of corporate affairs and communications, who is also new in his role. Murray had served as VP of state and electric public policy until February 1.

Hitt joined Walmart in 2015, replacing David Tovar. Previously, Hitt worked at Hill+Knowlton Strategies and as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, the Winston-Salem Journal, and Dow Jones News Service.

"[Hitt] has been a valued counselor to key leaders in our business, and he played an essential role in the evolution of our communications team, particularly the media relations function," said Brian Besanceney, SVP and chief communications officer at  Walmart. "We certainly have big shoes to fill."

Dominion generates electricity via coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy facilities as well as gas pipelines and electric transmission lines. The company is one of the largest producers and transporters of energy in the U.S., according to a statement from the company. Its operating earnings in Q4 2018 were $592 million, up 1.2% from the year prior.

This story was updated on February 26 with comment from Besanceney.
