Memac Ogilvy promotes Samer Abboud to regional managing director

Middle East communications agency Memac Ogilvy has promoted Samer Abboud to regional managing director to guide the agency's operations in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Iraq as the PR shop looks to expand its presence across the Arabian Gulf.

Abboud, who has worked with Memac Ogilvy for eight years, will head the agency’s operations in four locations: Jeddah, Riyadh, Beirut and Baghdad.

He will be supported by the deputy managing director of KSA and the general manager of Lebanon to drive forward the agency’s ‘Next Chapter’ evolution and reinforce Ogilvy’s ambition to ‘make brands matter’.

"Much has changed during my eight years with Ogilvy, but one constant has been our ability to see opportunities where others can’t," Abboud told PRWeek Middle East.

"Competition is fierce in our space today, so to remain relevant to clients and retain our hard-earned reputation as trusted consultants, we’ll work effortlessly towards achieving two things: continue to attract the brilliant talents and collaborate across our capabilities.

"Reaching these goals will be a top priority for our teams in these markets, under my guidance."

The appointment comes just months after Ogilvy appointed Philippe Berthelot as its new managing director for the UAE, who is now heading operations in the Emirates, drawing on more than two decades of experience across three continents.

Meanwhile, Patou Nuytemans took charge as MENA CEO in September 2017 for the agency, while retaining her position as chief digital officer of Ogilvy EMEA.

Nuytemans said: "Ogilvy is nothing without its people and their almost instinctive understanding of what we must do to ‘make brands matter’.

"As we expand our influence in growth markets during 2019 and continue to integrate, Samer’s years of experience in the ‘Ogilvy way’ – coupled with his vast expertise – will be invaluable to the agency’s success."

Samer Abboud joined Memac Ogilvy in December 2011, tasked with opening the network’s first office in Qatar’s capital Doha, which went on to become the agency’s fastest-growing office.

Prior to joining Ogilvy, Abboud served as COO of Grey in Qatar for five years, following eight years with Siemens Mobile.
