Manning-Cooper has been with England Rugby since 2013 and is currently director of digital, marketing and communications at the Rugby Football Union (RFU). Prior to that she was head of PR for London 2012, reporting to comms director Jackie Brock-Doyle, from London winning the bid through to the conclusion of the Olympics.

But, from May, she will join Sky as group director of corporate affairs, with responsibility for corporate communications, internal communications, Sky Ocean Ventures and the Bigger Picture. Manning-Cooper will report to Debbie Klein, Sky’s group chief marketing, corporate affairs and people officer.

"Joanna’s broad range of experience will be a great addition to our team as we enter the next exciting phase of Sky’s growth, and we look forward to welcoming her to Sky," Klein told PRWeek.

At the same time Andrew Swailes has been named as Sky’s group director of corp comms, replacing Gavin Davis, who announced in November that he would be leaving the broadcaster to set up his own agency.

Swailes will report in to Manning-Cooper when she joins. He has worked for Sky for two years and was involved in comms around the bid process (Comcast). Swailes specialises in reputation management and previously held roles at Walgreens Boots Alliance and Lloyds Banking Group.

At the end of last year Sky took on Edelman with a wide-ranging corporate comms brief.
