STOP PRESS: Former press secretary named chairman
APPOINTMENT: The former press secretary to John Major, Sir
Christopher Meyer, has been named chairman of the Press Complaints
Commission, replacing Lord Wakeham, who stood down to focus on clearing
his name after serving as a non-executive director of fallen energy
giant Enron. Meyer starts next spring after leaving his current post as
British Ambassador to the US.
