Incumbent agency Penrose Financial will continue to handle much of the day-to-day financial PR needs but Gavin Anderson has been hired to 'provide strategic input into financial communications,' according to an Aberdeen spokesman.
Penrose will also continue to handle product work for the personal finance media under director Clare Burston and partner Louise Hatch.
Gavin Anderson will report to the board of the FTSE 250 firm, which manages funds of more than £27bn.
The account will be headed by Neil Bennett, the UK chief executive and former business editor of The Sunday Telegraph. Much of the day-to-day work will be handled by a team led by director Lindsey Harrison.
The appointment was made by Aberdeen chief executive Martin Gilbert and director of marketing and investor relations Piers Currie.
Aberdeen was due to hit the business pages headlines this week as Gilbert gave evidence to the Treasury select committee on investment trusts.
The company has seen massive growth in recent years, and manages nine times as much investors' money as it did five years ago.
The lion's share of this is in the UK and Ireland, with a small portion in the US and Asia-Pacific.
Gavin Anderson has also scooped the financial PR brief for clothing retailer Monsoon. No agency has been in place for two months but Finsbury and Brunswick formerly worked on the account.
