CHICAGO: Cision has launched an innovation and research center that will serve as a testing ground for communications technology.
David Barker, president of data and innovation, will lead the unit, which will be known as the Cision Innovation Lab. It will have 30 staffers between New York and Berlin, with the German office focused on product development.
The lab will focus on product development, acquisitions, and partnerships with paid and owned companies, such as adtech company MediaMath and identity resolution provider LiveRamp. Those partnerships were inked in the past two years to improve measurement and better understand audiences for Cision’s clients.
Cision has rapidly acquired companies to build out its offerings in recent years. However, the company has had to integrate those platforms’ offerings into its own. The lab will help to onboard acquired technologies into its cloud offering, Cision Communications Cloud.
Another goal of the lab is to strengthen communications in general by establishing best practices for the industry through four "centers of testing and development" for quantitative analysts, AI, graph, and media.
Barker joined Cision in 2017 from Oracle, where he was VP of media and ad-tech sales. CEO Kevin Akeroyd is also an Oracle veteran, having served as GM and SVP of Oracle Marketing Cloud.
