NEW YORK: NBCUniversal has hired Joe Benarroch as SVP of corporate communications for its advertising sales and client partnerships division.
Based in New York, Benarroch started in his role on October 1. The last person to hold the SVP of corporate communications role was Amanda Collins, who is now global head of corporate communications, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Benarroch reports to Linda Yaccarino, chairman of advertising and client partnerships, and Hilary Smith, EVP of corporate comms and CSR. He explained that the dual reporting structure gives him the latitude to figure out how NBCUniversal’s business story intersects with its audience story.
Benarroch oversees two people, with one direct report: Pat Bunting, director of corporate comms.
His main responsibility is to work with Yaccarino to advance her division’s innovation story. He said Yaccarino streamlined the ad-buying process and unified NBCUniversal’s portfolio so that advertisers can better understand how they should build better brand experiences.
Benarroch said he joined NBCUniversal because he wanted to tell its story as a media and technology company.
"You have to consider both audiences - consumers and marketers," Benarroch said. "NBCUniversal has the networks people love and trust and they want to understand how we’re building value for them."
Benarroch said this also means communicating with marketers to help them understand NBCUniveral’s ad solutions and portfolio.
Most recently, Benarroch was director of corporate comms at Facebook. At the social media company, he served on the corporate comms team, working alongside global sales and marketing. The story he told was about Facebook’s business and economic opportunity for not only large brands, but also small and medium-sized businesses.
During his tenure at Facebook, he co-led Facebook’s Community Boost, which trained small business owners on how to use their platform. He also helped develop a partnership with the World Bank and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development called the "Future of Business," a collaboration that provides "monthly data to policymakers on the perceptions and challenges of online small and medium-sized enterprises across the world."
Prior to that, Benarroch served as SVP of corporate affairs at McCann Worldgroup and Mediabrands, a statement said.
