The MacLaurin team has been handed a remit overseeing EDS's business services, on a project basis until the end of the year.
The agency will now handle media relations work including breaking news and profile-raising opportunities in print and broadcast media.
MacLaurin director Colette Flanagan will head the account and report to Charlotte Steele, EDS PR manager for the UK & Ireland.
Ogilvy PR Worldwide won a wider year-long contract for EDS, said by both sides to be worth 'hundreds of thousands of pounds,' in fees last year (PRWeek, 9 February 2001). This relationship has now come to an end.
EDS marketing director Catherine Greenwood said: 'Ogilvy helped us get in place the foundations of a UK PR department.
'We are now experimenting with the type of PR we use now and were looking for a pure media relations firm.
'We operate in a fast moving industry - if you spend three months planning a forward feature you then find it's out of date by the time it comes out,' Greenwood added.
EDS which employs 20,000 in the UK and 150,000 globally, continues to use Bulletin International for a European broadcast PR brief.
Public affairs is handled in-house by government affairs manager Matthew Trimming.
