NatMags PR head takes up M&S role

LONDON - Resurgent retailer Marks & Spencer has hired former National Magazine Company PR head Tania Littlehales to head PR for its apparel, home and leisure division.

Littlehales left NatMags, the publisher of Good Housekeeping, in March this year, just two weeks after comms director Siobhan Kenny departed to become head of strategy and comms at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (PRWeek, 15 March).

The departures followed a NatMags restructuring which saw Kenny's role downgraded from director to head of comms, and Littlehales' from head of PR to PR manager.

However it is understood that Littlehales' appointment is currently a short-term measure, with headhunters continuing to compile a shortlist, including Littlehales, to fill the role on a permanent basis.

According to a leaked document circulated by the headhunters, Littlehales is currently responsible for planning and managing 'a multi-million pound' PR budget, reporting to and deputising in the absence of director of comms Flic Howard-Allen.

The document adds that she will be asked to 'evaluate... restructure and hire' as appropriate for the in-house team, and 'rationalise' external freelances and agencies.'
