PUBLIC SECTOR: Wiltshire council kit for citizenship awards schemes

Wiltshire County Council is creating a toolkit to help communications teams stage their own good citizenship award schemes.

The council is producing the toolkit - which should be finished in July - to allow other local authorities to adopt the formula used for this week's People of Wiltshire Awards.

Head of comms Sian Penlington believed the awards are an important tool in improving the relationship between the council and community.

She said: 'We didn't want the awards to be about the county council, organisations and bureaucracy. The awards are about giving something back to the community.'

'Interest has developed through word-of-mouth. In developing the toolkit, hopefully others can avoid having to jump through the same hoops we did to put on the awards,' Penlington added.

The Wiltshire awards were developed in co-operation with partners including BBC Radio and Newsquest newspapers.
