NEW YORK: Entercom has named Esther-Mireya Tejeda as head of corporate communications and PR.
Tejeda was appointed upon the completion of Entercom’s merger with CBS Radio, which was finalized in mid-November. She is reporting to CMO Ruth Gaviria and overseeing a team of three.
She explained that her job is to make sure advertisers, marketers, CMOs, media buyers, and media planners know that radio is the "number one reach medium in the country, and the number one ROI medium in the country."
"Beyond positioning and marketing Entercom, I am positioning and marketing all things radio," said Tejeda. "[Radio] is often the hidden gem, when advertisers and brands are thinking of ways to go to market. We need to elevate the entire industry and make sure people understand how valuable radio and audio content is and that it is a growing medium and virtually undisrupted and a good value for brands and advertisers."
Tejeda joined Entercom last August as VP of corporate communications. Her previous responsibilities have been folded into her new role.
"I came to Entercom to lead the communications strategy for the [acquisition] and to develop what is now the new company’s in-house communications practice, to work closely with legal, finance, and marketing to get us through from the point of announcement of the merger through close of the merger," she said.
Following its merger with CBS Radio, Entercom became the number two radio operator in the U.S. by revenue behind iHeartRadio. The deal expanded Entercom's nationwide footprint from 127 stations to 235 stations in 47 markets across the U.S., including 23 of the top 25 markets. The company is also the number two podcasting company in the country, second only to NPR.
Entercom does not have an AOR, and has no plans to hire one in 2018, said Tejeda. However, Sard Verbinnen worked with Entercom on a consultant basis during the acquisition.
Before Entercom, Tejeda was director of corporate communications for Univision Communications. Earlier in her career, she was a manager of PR at PepsiCo and Diageo.
