DIARY: AS Biss rates Express as Govt's harshest critic

Alastair Campbell may be on birthday-party terms with Richard Desmond, but this has done little to sway the Daily Express from its opinion that Tony Blair and the Labour Party are failing Britain. That's the view of PA shop AS Biss & Co, which has compiled a rating system for clients of how British daily newspapers view Labour's five years in power since 1997.

Joining the Express as the Government's harshest critic is The Independent.

The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Sun and the Daily Mail - while critical - are happy with some aspects of Labour. The Mail, in particular, views Blair as a world statesman of some stature.

And those offering the most favourable coverage are The Guardian, the Daily Mirror and The Financial Times, although the latter does believe that Labour is 'the least worst choice'.

Carelessly, the views of the Daily Star and the Daily Sport have been omitted from the survey.
