DIARY: 'Any excuse,' says Rush as he offers 50th drinks - again - at WC2 venue

How agency heads spend their time, part one: any suggestion those in top roles are too busy to engage in the sort of e-mail banter to which the rest of us are prone can be laid to rest this week as Diary spills the beans on an exchange of missives among London's PR bosses.

'After last year's rip-roaring success,' writes Positive Profile MD Jonathan Rush to a group of senior consultancy wallahs, 'I am celebrating my 50th birthday again. I look forward to buying you a drink and vice versa on Thursday 30 May at ... (venue name withheld for security reasons), WC2.'

Rush's invitees included assorted friends from his TCG days, the director of the press complaints commission Guy Black, most of the IPR secretariat and a host of others.

'I thought we celebrated your 50th shortly after you joined TCG in 1996,' Bell Pottinger Public Affairs MD Peter Bingle rather cruelly replied, before being told by Rush: 'Any excuse, Peter.'

Diary could scarcely agree more, and looks forward to joining the party later this month.

Happy Birthday, Jonathan.
