Lipin pulls talent from competitors as he launches own shop

NEW YORK: Steve Lipin, former U.S. senior partner at Brunswick Group, has brought Gladstone Place Partners to market with staffers siphoned from his competitors.

Gladstone has practices in financial comms, corporate reputation, strategic positioning, issues management, and corporate governance, putting it in competition with firms including Kekst and Company, Finsbury, Prosek Partners, and Brunswick Group.

Three former Brunswick executives are on Gladstone’s staff: former director Lauren Odell, former executive director Vanessa Esparza, and former SVP Felipe Ucrós. Odell will serve as partner and COO, while Esparza and Ucrós will serve as SVPs.

Gladstone is also launching with Josh Clarkson from Prosek, Max Ditcher from FTI Consulting, and Ross Lovern from Kekst. SVPs Danielle Belopotosky, a former editor at The New York Times, and Michael Flaherty, a former reporter at Reuters, are also on staff.

Louis Susman has signed on as Gladstone’s senior adviser. Susman is a former U.S. ambassador to the U.K., former vice chairman at Citi Investment Bank, and one time non-executive chairman at Edelman parent DJE Holdings.

The firm has also hired Victor Mallet, former senior associate at Finsbury, and Jamie Tracy, previously a financial analyst and development specialist at iPic Entertainment, as account executives.

A Brunswick representative declined comment. A representative from Gladstone declined additional comment.
