John Hancock hires State Street's Anne McNally as corporate comms head

BOSTON: John Hancock has hired Anne McNally as VP and head of corporate communications, effective on Monday.

McNally, the former global head of PR at State Street, is overseeing external and internal comms, John Hancock said in a statement. Based in the company’s Boston headquarters, she is reporting to CMO Barbara Goose.

John Hancock is the U.S. division of parent company Manulife Financial. In August, Manulife CFO Steve Roder played down reports that the company is considering spinning off John Hancock as it prioritizes growth in Asia-Pacific, according to Reuters.

McNally was most recently senior leader of the PR team at State Street, responsible for reputation management, media relations, and other duties for all of its divisions. She played a key role in the execution of State Street Global Advisers’ Fearless Girl campaign, which won several major awards at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity this summer. McNally also helped to roll out campaigns for the SHE Gender Diversity Index and ETF, which promote female leadership.

She ranked number 37 on the 2017 edition of PRWeek’s Power List.

Before joining State Street, McNally worked at True North Brand Group, AMP Agency, and Audissey Media, according to her LinkedIn account.

McNally and representatives from State Street and John Hancock could not be immediately reached for additional comment.
