The pair will work virtually and do not plan to recruit employees, but will deliver projects in collaboration with a network of senior associates.
This makes Mearns & Pike the second healthcare shop to launch with a virtual model in recent months, following Angie Wiles' The Difference Collective.
Mearns has worked in healthcare comms agencies for 17 years, latterly as chief business development officer at Havas Just::, and previously as MD at Just:: Health Communication, joining prior to its 2015 acquisition by the French group. She has also worked for Resolute, which was later purchased by Publicis, and for Chandler Chicco brand Litmus.
Pike has spent the past nine years at medical devices company Medtronic as UK and Ireland head of comms, having also operated his own consultancy, Atticus PR, and worked for Shire Health and Edelman.

The pair first met at an awards ceremony three years ago.
