Gudgeon leaves Grayling for HS

City PR agency Hudson Sandler has appointed Rebecca Gudgeon (main image) as a board director, leading its corporate comms practice. She arrives following 16 years at Grayling, the last six as director of corporate reputation and issues management where clients have included the Government of Kenya, Sir Robert McAlpine and Unilever. It follows the departure of Grayling's global brands chief Daniel Cohen in April.

Downing Street press officer to Powerscourt

Matthew O'Toole has joined Powerscourt as a senior consultant. He was previously a civil servant in Number 10, latterly as chief press officer for Europe and economic affairs. O'Toole had also worked in a media relations role at HSBC, and for HM Treasury, the UK Ministry of Justice and at the start of his career as a journalist for Dods, the publisher of Politicshome and Civil Service World. Last month the firm also took on Alison Watson, formerly head of real estate equity research at Investec, as a senior consultant in its investor relations practice. In Dublin, corporate solicitor Fran Moran has been hired as a consultant.

PR hire for Vince Cable

Mark Leftly, previously deputy political editor of The Independent on Sunday, is the new press secretary for Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable. Leftly's appointment was confirmed by Cable on Twitter. He was most recently a freelancer and politics correspondent for Time, after ending an eight-year spell at the Independent last year. Cable also confirmed the appointment of former MP Sarah Olney as chief of staff.

WHO's in the Shed

The World Health Organization has handed two creative health engagement campaign briefs to Shed Communications, the agency set up by Ketchum leaver Sebastian Stokes in 2015. One campaign will focus on the health of ageing populations, while the other promotes non-discrimination in healthcare settings.

BrandContent's Harley St appointment

Welsh agency BrandContent has been appointed by The Howard de Walden Estate to provide PR for the prestigious Harley Street Medical Area in central London. The land, owned by the de Waldens, is home to around 250 clinics and hospitals. Founded in 2014 by former MoneySuperMarket comms head Sharon Flaherty, BrandContent also recently won work with insurer Admiral.

Viral Talent hires MI PR

The social influencers management agency Viral Talent has appointed MI PR Global to handle trade and consumer PR. MI PR has recently expanded with the acquisition of a small agency and the creation of a joint venture with a design firm.

Seymour wins Kind Organic

Seymour PR has been appointed to run a two-month trade and consumer press brief for Kind Organic, which it says is the UK's first range of organic feminine care products for sensitive skin.
