Kissman’s job will include internal and external comms, public affairs, branding, strategy and corporate governance.
NHS Property Services looks after a portfolio of 3,500 properties, which is around 10 per cent of the entire NHS estate.
Its job is to provide planning expertise to meet future NHS needs, manage NHS properties, project manage the construction of new buildings and to provide maintenance services, including cleaning.
Kissman joins the NHS from contract catering and property services giant Compass Group, where he was its corporate affairs director.
He spent the preceding decade at Tesco where he was most recently its UK comms director and, before that, property and community services comms director and also regional corporate affairs director.
Kissman began his career at Boots, where he worked in its marketing and pharmacy development departments.
While at university, Kissman was a member of the National Union of Students’ executive committee, where he was responsible for running anti-racism campaigns.
Kissman said: "Next year we will celebrate 70 years of the NHS, however some of its buildings passed that age years ago. Modernising this estate and maximising the efficiency, value and quality of NHS property is an important part of delivering high quality patient care now and in the future. From the thorough cleaning of a single surgery to the construction of a brand-new community hospital, I’m looking forward to telling the positive story of the role we play in our National Health Service."
