Coca-Cola UK and Ireland president Tom Long asked the firm's group communications director (west Europe) and 13-year company veteran Martin Norris to step in as acting communications director until the post is filled.
Norris declined to disclose details of when an appointment was expected, but insisted it was business as usual for the communications team.
He paid tribute to the 'enormous and valuable' contribution Coker had made to comms efforts at the firm.
Coker joined Coca-Cola in January 2000 from a role as corporate comms manager at supermarket giant Tesco (PRWeek, 28 January 2000).
The appointee to the communications director position will oversee consumer and corporate comms for the full remit of Coca-Cola brands, as well as Sprite, Fanta and the Schweppes range of beverages.
The firm retains several agencies across the brands, including Cohn & Wolfe, Jackie Cooper PR and Henry's House.
