Social media manager

Starting salary/salary band for the job?
A round number in the thousands, with a decimal point and two zeros after that.

What qualifications do you need?
Degree or equivalent, but qualifications less important than experience. Personality! And a sound understanding of analytics, community management and copywriting are essential.

What level of experience do you need?
People think all I do is mess around on Twitter or Facebook all day, but there’s a lot of strategy involved. Several years of community management coupled with common sense, excellent judgement, a sense of humour and the ability to make sound informed decisions are vital.

Is previous experience in a public sector comms role necessary/useful?
Useful, but not necessary.

What are the main day-to-day challenges?
Where do I start? Finding the balance between serious issues and a bit of banter is an ongoing challenge.

What is the best part of the job?
Saving lives. It’s just wonderful to be part of a movement that changes behaviours and gets people thinking about how they can make a difference. I’d describe my role as 'saving lives, one Like at a time' by creating small moments that make a large life-saving difference.

What is the most unusual fact you know as a result of this job?
Patients with conditions like sickle cell disease need blood that is more closely matched than group alone. This means there is a need for more black donors, because the best match will often come from a donor of the same ethnicity.

If you get an interview, do say?
I want to learn and try new things. This space is big and constantly evolving - there’s a load to learn.

If you get an interview, don’t say?
Are you on social media?

If you’re good at this job you might also be well-suited to?
Donna Paulsen from Suits with a hint of Louis Litt and Harvey Spector.

Please note: Interviewees for 'So, you want my job' are not leaving their current role
