The Dovetail Agency champions women in charity awards to celebrate 20th year

Travel and hospitality specialist The Dovetail Agency has launched the Champion of Women Awards in celebration of its 20th anniversary, which it hopes will raise £100,000 for charity.

The event is being held in support of Maggie's, a cancer support charity that Dovetail founder Jayne Alexander has supported personally since attending its launch in 1996, the year before she left a senior position in Richard Branson's Virgin Group to set up her agency.

She is organising the awards in collaboration with Sue Finlay, general manager of central London hotel The Park Tower Knightsbridge, who has hosted a number of Maggie's events to date. The event is being held at fellow Sheraton hotel, The Sheraton Grand London Park Lane, on 29 September.

Alexander has secured a media partnership for the event from Mayfair Times, a local monthly luxury magazine, which is hosting an online public nomination process for the seven award categories, all of which recognise women who have "excelled in their field of business, shown compassion, provided support and encouragement to other women and young girls", the nomination page says.

She said: "I wanted to create the Champion of Women Awards to celebrate our 20th year, because I'm a true believer that women need to celebrate other women and encourage them to succeed and that that can make such a difference."

The agency hopes to attract 350 women to the event itself, and to host the awards on an annual basis going forward.
