40 Under 40 2017: Sean Lashley

SVP, partner, and global entertainment lead, FleishmanHillard, 37

Sean Lashley is proof professionals don’t need to leave an agency to grow. In his 15 years at FleishmanHillard, where he began as an intern, Lashley has been responsible for the creation and management of the agency’s global entertainment practice, breaking new ground in developing strategies to reach consumers through branded integrations in television, celebrity influencer campaigns and spokesperson work, sponsorships, and events. Flourishing in a role he created, he currently provides counsel to some of the world’s most admired brands, including Fitbit, Chase, and Hallmark.

One of the youngest counselors in Fleishman’s 70-plus year history to launch a seven-figure global practice group, Lashley continues to keep the agency and its clients in step with changing comms dynamics. He helped Tourism Australia take Oprah and her audience on a two-week adventure to Australia as part of the premiere of her 25th and final season, driving a 66% jump in visitors to Australia.com.

To raise awareness of prescription drug Synthroid, he secured actress and thyroid cancer survivor Sofia Vergara for a multi-year advertising, marketing, and PR campaign. When Udi’s Gluten Free sought to reach people not necessarily suffering from gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, Lashley created the first gluten free pop-up café at the Sundance Film Festival to reach influencers known to be early adopters of health trends.

He led an integrated effort to mark the 25th anniversary of Citi’s AAdvantage card, culminating in concerts with Alicia Keys and Maroon 5. Lashley also helped AT&T raise $1 million to support U.S. athletes through the sales of an Olympic soundtrack featuring Taylor Swift.

  • Passionate about animals, Lashley works with Five Acres Animal Shelter - the only no-kill animal shelter in St. Charles County, Mo., where he procures and manages musicians to perform at an annual fundraiser.
  • Lashley is a regular at the entertainment industry’s biggest events, including the Academy Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards, the Grammy Awards, the Sundance Film Festival, the Super Bowl, and MTV’s Video Music Awards.
  • Among the youngest recipients of Fleishman’s John Graham Award for Excellence, an internal honor for those who embody teamwork, service, entrepreneurialism, and high ethical standards established by and named after the firm’s chairman.
