Before joining Metis Marketing 18 months ago, Ward was marketing director of a joint venture internet portal set up by ScottishPower and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
The marketing services specialist also spent five years with Clarke Hooper, the integrated marketing arm of the UK's largest ad agency AMV, where he was responsible for marketing the Lexus LS400 in the UK.
Brodeur deliberately looked outside the traditional PR world to recruit.
'It is a much more complex world clients face today,' said UK chairman Mike Copland.
'Simon brings a breadth and depth of business management which will be key to harnessing the skills we offer and propelling the next phase of our development,' he added.
Ward, who has an MBA from Cranfield management school, replaces Andrea Burden. She is leaving Brodeur to live in The Netherlands with her fiance.
Since Ward's appointment, the remit for the UK managing director role has widened, according to Copland. 'As well as running the day-to-day operations, Simon will also have a high-level input in the future strategy of the company.'
Ward will also be involved in the diversification of Brodeur. 'Working with myself he will help us develop in the areas of marketing and consulting,' Copland said.
The Omnicom-owned Brodeur's international network spans 32 countries.
Its clients include IBM, Cable and Wireless and fund manager Fidelity Investments.
