There are fast moving industries. There are creative, energetic CEOs quick with the Twitter finger. There are companies that pretty much don’t like each other very much and compete loudly.
Any one of these challenges would make a comms leader twitch just a bit, and Janice Kapner gets to deal with all of the above, plus a side dish of mergers and acquisitions and regulators.
"Deal with" is a bit of underselling in this case. "Thrive" might be a better word. "Win" would work as well.
In the four years she’s been leading communications at T-Mobile, Janice has served up example after example of just the right tactic at the right time.
She’s driven news cycles that started in social media — see CEO quick with Twitter finger above — and created pitch-perfect news moments in traditional and non-traditional media both. And she’s done this by building out a great team, who are stars in their own right.
But regardless of the tactic she chooses, her ability to capture and promote the Un-carrier brand shines through — and that brand continues to gain in value as a direct result.
Her one big miss this year? I still don’t have a T-Mobile onesie.
