Ellesse appoints Frank to manage consumer remit

Ellesse, the UK's fourth largest sportswear brand, has handed Frank PR its consumer account.

The agency won the account following a competitive pitch last month, and assumes the brief from incumbent House PR.

The six-figure account will see the agency tasked with generating media coverage, primarily in the men's magazine sector, targeting 18 to 30-year-olds.

Frank PR joint-MD Nadia Gabbie said that the brand was synonymous with tennis and ski-wear, but added that the agency would seek to continue its spread into the mainstream consumer press.

This work will include the relaunch of the brand's 'Old School' tennis clothing.

Ellesse was founded in 1959 by Italian Leonardo Servadio. In the 1970s it became the first sports brand to place its name on the outside of its clothing, sponsoring Italy's national skiing team and tennis.

Other brands handled by Frank PR, founded in September 2000, include Bryclreem (PRWeek, 30 November 2001), computer game producer Acclaim (PRWeek, 3 August 2001) and virgin.net.
