National Grid/Lattice merger threat to staff

The merger of National Grid and Lattice has put the comms staff at both FTSE 100 firms under threat.

While the groups have already carved up the top-tier jobs for newly merged £15bn entity National Grid Transco, it has not yet been decided who will take the top PR role.

Both National Grid, which is using Citigate Dewe Rogerson on the deal, and Lattice, which is using The Maitland Consultancy, said it was too early to say how the team will be structured, but confirmed plans to create a central team.

'There is an intention to consolidate the two head office operations,' said a Lattice spokesman.

National Grid head of external comms Clive Hawkins added: 'There'll be one corporate centre for the group and, in time, there will be one headquarters for the business itself.'

At National Grid, a ten-strong PR team is headed by UK director of comms Gareth Lloyd and director of IR and media relations Marcy Reed.

Former group corporate affairs director Susan Stevens left earlier this month to be V-P of comms at National Grid's US base (PRWeek, 5 April).

Lattice director John Wybrew oversees a ten-strong PR team for the gas company, listing corporate affairs among his wider responsibilities.

Reporting into Wybrew is group head of media relations Gillian Home, head of IR Melissa Sellars, head of corporate comms Martin Blaxall and head of government and European policy Christine Martmann.
