PUBLIC SECT0R: Herts set to launch waste awareness consultation push

Hertfordshire County Council is launching a PR drive to support a waste management consultation exercise involving 11 local authorities.

The authorities - whose joint consultation is branded the WasteAware Partnership - have put together a draft strategy for dealing with the increasing amount of waste the county is producing and have started the consultation exercise to get public feedback on the plan.

The PR campaign involves a press release issued by each of the local authorities, a 31-date roadshow allowing people to speak to waste experts, a new website, and the publication of a questionnaire that will go to all 485,000 homes in the county through the councils' newspapers.

The county council's environment department head of comms Seth Brook said: 'We are finding it quite easy to engage the local press on the subject. In everything we are doing we are stressing that waste is only rubbish when you chuck it away - there are important things hidden in it.'
