Developing world charity on hunt for external advisers

The Swinfen Charitable Trust (SCT) - which aims to assist the sick, poor and disabled in the developing world - is looking for external PR support for the first time in the charity's four-year history.

The Trust is putting out a call to agencies and freelance consultants to get in contact with a view to launching a PR and sponsorship campaign later this summer.

SCT marketing and communications consultant Mark Terry said the brief would be to develop the Trust's PR programme from scratch.

'It's about building a PR campaign, but also about having links with the right people in sponsorship and maintaining links with existing sponsors as well,' said Terry.

'It is from getting case studies together, a picture file and basic copy writing to media relations and sponsorship,' he added.

The campaign would involve consumer, healthcare and tech PR.

Terry confirmed he had held talks with a number of agencies and freelances but was yet to compile a shortlist. He hopes to have support on board by the end of May.

The Canterbury-based Trust, which was set up in 1998 by Lord and Lady Swinfen, establishes telemedicine links between hospitals in the developing world and specialists who give free advice by e-mail.
