The company has hired an undisclosed headhunting firm to fill the reinstated post of director of corporate and public affairs, which will report directly to CEO Mike Hodgkinson.
Wilson left 18 months ago to work as part-time adviser to Hodgkinson, a move which sparked a PR reshuffle at BAA.
BAA then split Wilson's role, naming his then deputy Steven Olivant as corporate affairs head and handing former Heathrow director of PA Jenny Bradley the enlarged role of PA head covering all south-east airports (PRWeek, 17 March 2000).
On the decision to re-instate Wilson's role, a BAA spokeswoman said: 'We have decided to combine the corporate affairs and public affairs role within BAA and the new director will work closely with the board.'
She added Olivant and Bradley would not be affected by the decision to recruit externally, but will report to the yet-to-be-appointed PR chief instead of Hodgkinson.
Wilson left in April 2000, one year before he was due to retire.
