Sykes moves to AstraZeneca NW England position

Manchester Airport is on the hunt for a head of press and PR following the departure of Sally Sykes to AstraZeneca.

Sykes, who spent six years in the airport's top comms job, has been appointed director of communications for AstraZeneca's north-west England operation.

An airport spokesperson said the hunt for a successor to Sykes is being overseen by MD David Teale.

At the airport Sykes had to deal with challenges including strikes in protest at proposed job-cuts, a mid-air near-miss and, in 1999, a runway shunt involving the plane of the then-Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak.

Fiona Tigar continues to head communications across AstraZeneca's UK operation from the firm's London HQ.
