PUBLIC SECT0R: Lewisham set for PR drive to boost teacher numbers

The London Borough of Lewisham is to launch a fresh communications drive to boost teacher recruitment and retention.

The campaign, which kicks off next week, will seek to promote Lewisham as a desirable place to live and work, while highlighting the low cost of living in Lewisham compared with other areas of London.

The work has been devised following consultation with teachers and headteachers.

As part of the brief, the borough has hired agency Square One to produce an internal newsletter for teachers.

Square One commercial director Sean King claimed it was the 'most commercial' approach taken by an education authority in addressing the teacher recruitment crisis.

In addition to PR, the campaign will involve ad and direct marketing, as well as the development of an intranet. The campaign will focus on London and the south-east.
