Boeing strikes Iran plane deal. U.S. aerospace giant Boeing announced a $16.6 billion list price deal to sell planes to Iran, a country traditionally blacklisted economically by the U.S. Borrowing some familiar rhetoric from president-elect Donald Trump, company executives touted the nearly 100,000 jobs that will be supported by the 80-plane deal. Last week, Trump criticized spiraling costs of a 747 Air Force One Boeing is building.
Tech leaders to meet Trump Weds. Senior executives from Silicon Valley and tech giants Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, and Google will be at a meeting in New York City on Wednesday with Donald Trump. Tim Cook, Larry Page, Sheryl Sandberg, and Satya Nadella are expected to attend. Tech companies have been accused of lacking empathy over the impact their disruptive business models have on traditional American jobs.
Different views on Russian interference. The CIA and FBI gave different opinions to lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee in Washington, DC last week about Russia’s alleged attempts to influence the outcome of the U.S. Presidential election. A secret CIA probe suggested Russia was trying to help Trump win, but the FBI was less equivocal and wants more hard evidence.
General Motors to recall 50,000 vehicles. The auto giant is set to recall 50,000 sport utility vehicles due to problems with the cooling system that may cause a short circuit and subsequent fire. The recall will affect 2010 through 2014 models of the Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit SUV.
Trump doesn’t need daily briefings. In another break with protocol, Trump used his first Sunday show interview since the election to tell Fox News Sunday he will eschew the long-held practice of receiving a President’s Daily Brief, delegating the task to his Vice President Mike Pence and relevant generals. He told host Chris Matthews he was a "smart person" and only needs a weekly briefing.
PepsiCo launches premium water brand. The snacks and beverage company is set to launch a purified water brand with electrolytes and pH balance called LIFEWTR. It is the latest play in Pepsi’s bid to move its portfolio from chips and soda to more healthy products.
