HAMILTON, BERMUDA: Bacardi Limited has hired K.C. Kavanagh as SVP and global chief communications officer, the spirits company said Tuesday morning.
Kavanagh is succeeding Jim Gallagher, who will step down from his position as global chief communications officer next month after two years in the role. She will be based at the company’s global headquarters in Hamilton, Bermuda, subject to Bermuda Department of Immigration approval, the company said in a statement.
Kavanagh will report to Bacardi CEO Mike Dolan and serve on the company’s global leadership team. She will work closely with Dolan and chairman Facundo Bacardi.
Kavanagh’s responsibilities will include developing strategic internal and external corporate communications to drive growth around the world. She will also develop integrated public relations campaigns, social media strategies, and content marketing programs for Bacardi’s portfolio of brands in collaboration with brand marketing teams. Kavanagh will also oversee Bacardi’s corporate and brand archives.
Bacardi’s portfolio includes more than 200 brands and labels, including Bacardi rum, Grey Goose vodka, Dewar’s Blended Scotch whisky, Bombay Sapphire gin, Martini vermouth and sparkling wines, and Cazadores 100% blue agave tequila.
She is joining Bacardi from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, where she has worked for 18 years. Most recently, Kavanagh held the role of SVP of global communications since 2010. During her tenure, she also led global communications for Starwood and its 11 brands, including Sheraton, Westin, St. Regis, and W Hotels.
Kavanagh also served as a member of Starwood’s deal and integration team during its $13 billion merger with Marriott International.
Asked who will replace Kavanagh, Trey Sarten, VP of global brand communications at Starwood said, "Starwood was acquired by Marriott in September. Tricia Primrose is the chief global communications officer for Marriott International."
Earlier in her career, Kavanagh worked for Hyatt Hotels as director of PR.
