EM boosts EG Capital Advisors bond fund launch

The Russia-based specialist firm is working to raise awareness globally about the fund.

NEW YORK: EM is supporting EG Capital Advisors’ announcement that it is launching an emerging markets high yield bond fund.

Known for its specialties in finance and strategic communications, as well as emerging markets, the Russia-based consultancy is working to raise awareness globally about the fund.

"We’ll be doing a lot with the media and putting out the news to the financial markets," CEO Tom Blackwell said. "We’re obviously looking to get the news publicized so it gets picked up in the main financial media, so investors are aware of it. Then we’ll take it from there."

The investment firm will launch the fund in the first quarter of 2017 with initial committed assets under management of $50 million. U.K.-based Coppin Collings will partner with EG Capital Advisors to provide the "operational platform" for the fund and other functions.

Thomas Kiehn and Sergii Pershyn, the leaders of EM’s New York office, are handling work for the announcement. The firm opened its doors in New York earlier this year in an effort to push into the main financial center of North America.

The shop’s Hong Kong office, opened last September, also won its first major Chinese client, Charles Chen Yidan, cofounder of Tencent Holdings, one of the world’s largest Internet companies, Blackwell said. Work for the business magnate started in October.

Blackwell and his partners launched EM after completing a management buyout from M:Communications. Blackwell said the firm anticipates ending this year with global revenues of $3.5 million, up more than 25% over the year prior.

This month, EM is also handling communications for the Moscow Exchange and fertilizer manufacturer PhosAgro. The agency is supporting the Moscow Exchange Russian Capital Markets Forum, a conference on the Russian economy and financial infrastructure that began Tuesday in New York. London will host the conference in December.

EM is supporting PhosAgro’s sponsorship of the World Chess Championship, which is being hosted by New York. EG Capital Advisors is also sponsoring the event.

This story was updated on November 17 to correct that EG Capital Advisors is launching an emerging markets fund in the first quarter of next year.
