With a total of 200 staff, PPG owns a number of digital services companies, including ad network Anetwork, whose output reaches more than 36 million Iranians each month, WPP said.

PPG also operates major local PR newswire service Akhbar Rasmi, as well as several content and social media management businesses.

"This initiative continues WPP’s strategy of focusing on three key areas that differentiate the Group's offering to clients: content, technology and data," a WPP statement said.

The deal follows a similar agreement in August that saw Grayling, the world's 22nd largest PR firm, enter Iran via advertising and marketing comms agency PGt Advertising.
