Energy UK has nearly 100 members involved in the energy generation and supply industries. It will welcome Sampson into the role in the New Year, in which she will lead its press, public affairs and events team.
Fellow Downing Street alumna Vickie Sheriff was recently announced as Which's new director of comms and campaigns, after leaving a role at Heathrow at the start of this month (October).
The role of director of comms and public affairs at Energy UK had previously been held by Lesley McLeod, who left in August this year to become CEO of health and safety institution at the Association for Project Safety.
Energy UK CEO Lawrence Slade said: "An unprecedented number of firms are now competing for customers. Energy companies are investing many billions of pounds in renewing and decarbonising the power sector. Abbie will bring a sharper edge to our communications about how consumers, communities and the economy benefit from reliable, low carbon and affordable energy."
Interviewed by PRWeek in the summer, Sampson described that her team at Which? had a 'fewer, clearer, louder' mentality - speaking out on issues it could have real impact on and which truly aligned with the organisation's objectives, rather than passing comment on anything that caught their attention - and did not use PR agencies.
