Ferguson will sit on the company’s executive committee and will be based in New York, reporting to chief executive Dawn Airey.
Ferguson joins Getty from Christie’s, where she was international director of comms and PR, leading the fine art auctioneer’s global corporate comms efforts.
Before Christie’s, Ferguson was SVP of global comms for the luxury hotel company Kerzner International and was previously SVP of national publicity for Miramax.
At Getty, Ferguson will lead a comms approach which attempts to bolster the global brand and work with stakeholders including photographers, consumers and media outlets.
Ferguson said: "Imagery is the common thread that transcends cultural and language barriers.
