Enlarged comms post at PAGB will be filled by Owen

The Proprietary Association of Great Britain, the trade association for over-the-counter medicines and food supplements, has appointed Mike Owen as director of communications and commercial affairs.

He joins the PAGB from Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, where he was marketing and business development director.

The PAGB position has been vacant since the death of Barbara Atkinson in August last year. Media and publications manager Fraser Woodward has been acting comms head. The director of comms role has been expanded to take on commercial affairs, reflecting the increased focus on commercial treatments.

Owen, previously with BT, Lloyds Bank and the NHS, said increasing recognition of the importance of OTC treatments in the healthcare system increased the importance of communications.

'Keeping self-care high on the Government's agenda is vital. The opportunities presented by this and the widening of access to medicines need to be carefully managed,' he said.
