Crighton, who has been on gardening leave for the past six months after leaving his board director role at Text 100, was approached by Edelman president of international operations Alison Canning, who oversaw the creation of the new position.
He is tasked with positioning Edelman's tech practice at the heart of the troubled sector as it heads for a predicted year-end recovery.
'The recovering tech sector will be less tolerant of agency-centric, sub-standard and inconsistent PR work,' said Crighton, who formerly set up and managed Text 100 Ireland.
'Those that have pulled through the downturn will be looking for less hype and reactive PR. They shy away from short-termism and will seek an approach to include quality, ethics and depth,' he added.
'I expect to make key appointments later in the year, but will draw on the team already in place,' said Crighton, who reports direct to Canning.
'Carlo has experience in the specialist area, and is someone we consider a mover and shaker. We hope his track record on multinational clients will bolster our tech offerings,' said Canning.
