PRWeek UK reported in December last year that the company, whose brands include Smirnoff, Guinness and Baileys, was putting the account out to pitch. It had been held by Edelman since 2010.
Dominic Redfearn, global brand and comms director at Diageo, said in December 2015: "Edelman has been our corporate agency for more than six years and has done a good job for the business. With a new corporate brand strategy to deliver, the time is right to look at the support we need moving forward."
PRWeek understands 16 agencies pitched for the account.
Diageo has now confirmed to PRWeek that the brief has been awarded to Teneo Blue Rubicon. Owned by Teneo, the London agency was created last week with the integration of the UK properties of the US group.
The agency declined to comment.
Diageo made net sales of £10.5bn ($13.9bn) in the year ending 30 June 2015, a drop of more than £300m on the year before. It spent £1.6bn on marketing in the year.
Portland was hired by the firm as its UK corporate comms and public affairs in July last year - that brief had also been held by Edelman, also since 2010. Edelman is still used by Diageo for some employee engagement and crisis work.
