Nike's Jordan Brand hires Fleishman's Mitch Germann as global comms lead

Germann departs his current role as GM of FleishmanHillard's Los Angeles office on September 7.

BEAVERTON, OR: Nike’s Jordan Brand has hired FleishmanHillard GM Mitch Germann to lead global comms.

Germann starts in his role at Nike on September 12. He was unable to provide further detail on the position, but told PRWeek that he is "grateful" for his time at Fleishman.

"I’m grateful for the friendships I developed there and will always consider myself part of the Fleishman family," he added.

Germann has been in his current role as GM of Fleishman’s Los Angeles office since last August. Long-time Fleishman alum, Emily Frager, is returning to the agency to replace Germann in the role. She will head Fleishman’s operations in Los Angeles and Orange County. Germann’s tenure at Fleishman officially ends September 7, while Frager steps into the role on September 26, according to a release.

At Fleishman, Frager will report to JJ Carter, global COO, president of the Americas. Her responsibilities at Fleishman will include maintaining the office’s healthy environment, hiring talent, ensuring financial growth, and finding clients positioned in those "sweet spots."

"[Fleishman’s Los Angeles office] has established itself in its ability to hire great talent and work with the Fleishman network, with a focus on tech, entertainment, sports and lifestyle," Frager said. She added that her background is in tech, retail, and lifestyle.

Frager most recently served as CMO at Lennar Ventures, the innovation arm of Lennar Corporation, for a two-year stint. While there, she was responsible for strategic positioning, branding, and go-to market strategies, and argued homebuilders now act as salesmen. Before that, she held senior roles at Fleishman over a period of 16 years.

Before becoming GM, Germann was SVP and senior partner at Fleishman. He rejoined the firm in April 2012, after serving as VP of digital at Edelman.

Germann has also worked as VP of marketing and communications at Maloof Sports & Entertainment, director of brand communications at the Professional Bowlers Association, and managing supervisor in an earlier stint at Fleishman.

Nigel Powell is Nike's chief communications officer. He has been with the company in various positions since 1999, stepping into his current role in 2013.
