DIARY: Ex-Edelman UK MD supports rocker son on TOTP

Pop stars often face criticism for employing too many publicists and reputation managers. Even alternative rockers are now taking on PR help - and they only have their genes to blame.

Those who missed the lower reaches of the Top 20 last week will be unaware of the debut chart (and thus Top of the Pops) appearance of rock act Hundred Reasons.

The appearance will have attracted the attention of ex-Edelman PR Worldwide UK MD Tari Hibbitt and her daughter, IBM UK corporate relations manager Claire Hibbitt, due to the presence of Tari's son Larry on guitar.

While IBM's Hibbitt denied the family played any role in plugging the band, she admitted there may be a culture clash between the two professions: 'She (Tari) is this glamorous high-powered PR figure, and went along looking unlike most other people in the audience at the gig, who looked like they were wearing dirty laundry.'
