Bell Pottinger and Good Relations boost for Chime

Chime Communications' PR businesses - Bell Pottinger and Good Relations - were the company's best-performing brands last year, according to figures released this week.

The firm's preliminary results from last year show group-wide pre-tax profits rose by 14 per cent to £16.3m. The operating profit for PR businesses is recorded at £7.2m, a leap of £1.5m on 2000.

Across the board, the group worked for 1,148 clients last year, compared to 1,207 in 2000.

A statement from Chime said: 'Despite a much-chronicled weakness in the PR market, this has not been our experience.'

Major acquisitions for Chime last year included US-based technology agency LNS Communications.

It also acquired German PR business MMK in October, launched Smithfield Financial in Frankfurt and in December acquired corporate social responsibility specialist agency The Smart Company.

The company statement added that the group saw CSR as a growth area.
