Hilton Group picks Pagett for comms role

Leisure giant Hilton Group has appointed former Bank of Scotland PR chief Alex Pagett as director of corporate affairs.

His appointment sees the revival of the top comms post, which has not existed since Charles Anson was made redundant six months ago.

It is believed the group approached Pagett, formerly BoS MD of group corporate comms, when it became apparent he was available for work.

Pagett, who was unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press, takes up the position at the start of April, assuming overall responsibility for the Hilton International hotel chain and bookmaker Ladbrokes Worldwide Betting.

He reports into Hilton Group CEO David Michels.

Pagett's first task on joining will be to undertake an appraisal of Hilton's in-house PR operation. It is understood that external agency relationships will not be reviewed.

Hilton UK & Ireland comms director Leslie McGibbon said he was 'very much looking forward' to working with Pagett again, having worked with him when Pagett headed communications at leisure firm Stakis before its acquisition by Hilton Group.

'He has an exceptional depth and knowledge of communications issues.

I'm looking forward to having someone with his experience on close call,' said McGibbon.

Earlier this month, Hilton met external agencies as it looked to step up promotional efforts surrounding its online booking facilities at hilton.com (PRWeek, 8 March).
